The new building will be the largest of its kind in the world, housing a total of 25,000 students.

The NEA also provided $20 million for a new research center, called the Center for Art History and Art History Studies, which will bring together leading experts in arts history, art history and the social sciences.

Art history courses, which are designed to be broadly accessible, have expanded at American schools since the 1970s, with more than 40 different schools offering art history as a third-year or undergraduate
