NEW YORK — The creator of the television series about the healthcare system, who has since passed away, has been working on a new TV show about his childhood, according to sources close to the situation.
Adams’ new show, titled “The New Teacher’s Picture,” is expected to air in 2018, according a person familiar with the project.
The source said Adams will produce the show with a network partner, but the details of the partnership have not been made public.
The project was conceived after Adams became ill, and the producers wanted to explore the issues of health care and education, according the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the work of the producer.
Adams, who died on July 8, 2017, was known for his animated TV show, “The Colbert Report,” which was one of the highest-rated shows on Comedy Central in 2018.
His animated work was featured on “South Park” and “The Simpsons.”
In January, Adams told “CBS This Morning” that he is working on an adaptation of his children’s book “The Teacher’s Photo.”
The author, whose children are both now adults, wrote in the book that she wanted to make a story about how children can teach them about health care, as well as a book about how teachers can change the world.
The book, published in 2018 by HarperCollins, was the first of its kind to be published in the United States.
“It was a very personal thing for me to write,” Adams said in the interview.
